MDTEC is pleased to offer the Maryland Talent Youth Orchestra.
This orchestra is open to violin, viola and cello students in Suzuki book 4 (or equivalent) and up who can demonstrate sufficient reading skills, technical facility on their instrument and a solid sense of intonation. The orchestra is for strings and percussion only and features the music of artists like Adele and Lady Gaga as well as music from Broadway and TV shows as well as standard classical repertoire.

Rehearsals are held from 4:15-5:45 on Fridays at the All Saints Episcopal Church in downtown Frederick. Enrollment is open to both MDTEC and non-MDTEC students.
Cost is $175/semester for current MDTEC students and $225/semester for non-MDTEC students.

Conductor will asses student based upon their technical skills, tone, intonation, rhythmic accuracy.
Violin: Minimum requirements: A piece from Suzuki book 4 (MODA grade 4) or equivalent and up. Students should be able to read music in keys up to two sharps/two flats. Scales: Two octaves: G chromatic scale, G major scale and arpeggio, G melodic minor scale and arpeggio, A major scale and arpeggio, B-flat major scale and arpeggio. First violins must be able to play a piece from Suzuki book 5 and up, and demonstrate facility in 3rd and 5th positions. They will also have to play required scales in 3 octaves. Sightreading will also be required.
Viola: A piece from Suzuki book 3 or equivalent (MODA grade 2). Two octaves: C chromatic scale, C major scale and arpeggio, C melodic minor scale and arpeggio, D major scale and arpeggio, E-flat major scale and arpeggio. Quarter note=60, slurring two eighth notes per bow, staccato and legato. Sightreading.
Cello: A piece from Suzuki book 3 or equivalent (MODA grade 2). Two octaves: C chromatic scale, C major scale and arpeggio, C melodic minor scale and arpeggio, D major scale and arpeggio, E-flat major scale and arpeggio. Bass: Two orchestra excerpts of your choice or solo from Suzuki book 2 or equivalent. One or Two octaves: Chromatic scale (your choice), One major scale and arpeggio.
